Gerard Street. For South Asian living in the GTA, no two words sum up the quasi-indo experience quite like a stroll down this cultural strip. If anyone wanted to know what the Indo culture really spends it’s money on, they need look no further. A myriad of jewelry stores, bollywood cinemas, sari shops and homewares are set amidst the best culinary shacks the city has to offer (really… the more run-down the restaurant, the better the food!).
As kids, when our parents took us to Gerard St. we were told not to touch anything, avoid getting run over by a streetcar and if we managed to pull that off there would be a jalebi in it for us (translation: jalebi = syrup infused sugar dough = dentists’ BMW payments). The street was alive with corn roaster and Salman Khan posters. Kasfhi & Kameel decided it was time to celebrate the historic Gerard St. with a little help from Kumari.
Playing off the oh so many stereotypes and cliches we reveled in the memories while being entertained by the sheer sillyness of this LMAO couple. We even concocted an engagement story, which I like to call.. Beauty & the Walla. The best part about the story was the actual tin foil ring that Kameel used to propose to Kasfhi. How perfectly bollywood!
…the Pan Walla’s proposal begins!
His versatility as an actor knows no end!
In typical Bollywood fashion, he can’t get her…and then somehow he always does!
Note, grime on window…mmmmm!
